By on September 12, 2019

As-built drawings are architectural drawings made by professionals that clearly indicate the position and location of utility lines and equipment, and the construction methods used.

They can sometimes be prepared by contractors as well, under the instruction of architects.

These drawings are important with regards to building works as original plans of construction might be changed due to on-the-field modifications.

As most people can agree, often times theory cannot be applied in practice.

When construction is completed fully or partially, a new set of drawings are created which would show the actual details of construction. This can sometimes be very different from the original plan.

With this as-built drawing, the new contractor that is taking over the next phase of construction or a builder who is do a job in future, would be able to reference the building structure so that they can be accounted for.

This helps to improve efficiency and prevent construction mistakes which can be a threat to safety.
