Garnishment is a legal process that enables a means to safeguard creditors interest by involving 3 parties.

The 3 parties are:

  1. Judgment creditor
  2. Judgment debtor
  3. Garnishee

The judgment creditor refers to the party that is owed money.

The judgment debtor refers to the party that owes money.

The garnishee refers to a third party that holds money or property belonging to the debtor.

In such processes, the garnishee would be ordered by the court to turn over property or funds to the judgment creditor.

The most common garnishment cases are against employers and lenders.

For the release of the garnished property, a debtor can sometimes file a bond with the court.
