Light Industry Vs Heavy Industry

By on December 4, 2018

The reference to light industry and heavy industry is used to describe local zoning designation regarding what types of businesses and factories can be set up in a particular area.

There are no standard rules across the board as different local areas can have different governments, requirements, regulations, and tolerance.

However, it is generally agreed that light industry refers to manufacturing activities that are more labor intensive, less machinery intensive, and causes less pollution. They are also usually smaller in area used compared to heavy industry.

Heavy industry refers to manufacturing activities that are less labor intensive but employs more heavy machinery for manufacturing and fabricating.

They tend to be bigger factories and causes more pollution, especially noise, compared to light industry.
