Punch List

By on January 8, 2019

A punch list is a term used to describe a list containing defects or anything that is not up to standard which the building or contractor has to rectify before the property will be accepted by the new owner.

This list can contain items as minor as a scratch on a window pane to items as major as uneven flooring.

While a punch list is common for the transaction of new homes so that the new owner would be taking over a house with no complaints, it can often also be used in remodeling projects.

It goes without saying that if you are a buyer of a new home, anything that you find unsatisfactory during inspection that does not meet the standards indicated in the sale documents, should be made known to the developer.

Get them to rectify them, or you would be losing out on a fair deal.

Saying that, bad workmanship should also be included in the punch list even if it is not mentioned in the sale documents.

To avoid being taken for a ride by contractors or developers, you should just list down everything that is not up to expectations.

You can work it out with the manager doing the handing over later.
