Setting Up A Cozy Bedroom You Don’t Want To Leave
If you have never indulged yourself in quality bedroom fittings, you will immediately know what you are missing out on when you enter a respectable hotel’s bedroom. You feel that the vacation budget is worth every cent just from the cozy room alone. How can anyone not sleep well in a luxurious bedroom? The good thing is that you can go some way to replicate that cozy look and feel without a high class interior designer as long as you grasp the concept. The bad thing is that you have to get to work. Yes, resting in a cozy bed comes after building it.
Colours. Although what colour you choose for the bedroom depends on your personality and preference, you should stay away from dull plain colours. Softer hues and white gives a look of cleanliness and softness which is inviting. Light shades also give you an easier task while playing with colours. If you have to use white sheets, add some life with coloured pillow cases and quilt covers.
Bed. Get a bed that is at least 30cm in height. That is not the height you will end up with as we have yet to add the mattress. So if you have a specific height to attain, remember to factor in the height of your selected mattress. For headboards, having one made with timber will be easier to maintain than one with upholstery. Also note that beds with empty space underneath will collect dust and can be a nightmare to clean.
Cushions. A top secret that beds in show flats have that many people do not realize is the use of cushions. Beds with only bolsters and pillows look too structured. Beds are no longer just a place to sleep these days. We use them to watch television, surf the net, read the latest bestselling book, etc.
If you absolutely do not want anything other than pillows on your bed, at least have 1 small coloured cushion to add some spice to the bed. And since you will not be sleeping on these cushions, you can go for elaborate embroidery designs. Sleeping on embroidery designs will leave an impression on your face for a few hours in the morning after you wake up.
Bedsheets. I used to be one of those people who felt that those who buy expensive bedsheets have nothing better to do with their money. That was until someone gave me a luxury set as a gift. Sleeping in it felt like heaven and I can never go back to lesser sheets again. The maths is like this. If a set of premium bedsheets costs $500, it is still good value. Because you will likely use it for at least 5 years. That means $100 per year. Divide that by 365 and you get 27 cents. Less than 30 cents a day for better sleep for the next 5 years? It’s a no-brainer. You will also have a big design collection to choose from as premium sheets come with a host of great designs.
Consumers often measure bedsheet quality by thread count. However, the ones with the highest counts does not necessary mean that it is the best. The higher the thread count, the thicker and softer the fabric will feel. It is best to feel the sheets before purchase to have a sense of the weaving and material.
Curtains. Curtains are absolutely necessary to create a luxurious bedroom. Not just normal curtains. Only use full length ones if you are serious in creating the look. Blinds are too mechanical and are for office use. It puzzles me how anyone can use blinds for their bedrooms. Always use 2 layers of curtains. One for the day and the fancy one for the night. Curtains make a room look classy. But because premium ones often need you to place an order for shipment, you have to make sure you get the right design or your bedroom can end up looking like a night club after you fix it up.
Lights. Installing lights directly above the bed is not a necessary protocol. Using soft and warm lighting that does not directly shine on the bed is sufficient for a bedroom. Standing lamps give a classic look while table lamps are more practical for a modern look. You can build fluorescent lights in wardrobes that switch on when it opens.
